I just gave myself a little laugh and thought about how many times I’ve been in her shoes for misunderstanding an acronym! As it turns out, AACR really stood for American Association for Cancer Research. The author explained how the subject of an email she had received was titled “AACR Implements Collexis’ Reviewer Finder and Journal Dashboard.” She was a little confused about this subject line and wondered to herself how Anglo American Cataloging Rules was implementing something from Collexis. Sometimes I even made up my own meanings for some of the acronyms when I did not understand what they meant! So, when the first post on Online Insider was titled “Tripped Up by Acronyms,” I knew I had to read it. As a young girl, I grew up listening to their discussions at the dinner table and learning all of the federal government acronyms. This base provides for the defense of our navy.
They worked at the Crane Naval Base, officially titled Naval Support Activity, in Crane, Indiana. Let me first begin by explaining that I grew up learning all types of acronyms from my mom and dad.
